Heavy metals in cereals

Heavy metals can cause adverse effects in the organism.

They are the metals in the bottom of the periodic table.
Their density are higher than other elements in the periodic table.

These metals are associated to soil and water pollution, but they can be transported in the air in gas state. In fact, most of them are transported in the air.

Mercury (Hg), Arsenic (AS), Lead (Pb) and Cadmium (Cd) are those with the greatest environmental danger due to its wide distribution in water, soil and air.

Some problems they can cause in health are:

  • Cadmium: Kedney insufficiency.
  • Mercury: Neurological damage.
  • Lead: Neurological damage

These effects are not produced just by eating or drinking slightly polluted food or drink once.
These metals accumulate in the body every time we eat food, with the air, the water or in cosmetics polluted with heavy metals.

Damage can appear after a long time (months or years).
