Alzheimer and Omega 3 fatty acids.

Beta amiloid plaques, Alzheimer disease.

Why are so important the Omega 3 fatty acids?

They are essential fatty acids, and they can only be obtained from the diet. These fatty acids are polyunsaturated.
Many studies suggest that Omega 3 fatty acids have several beneficial effects on the senile dementia diseases, such as Alzheimer and multiple sclerosis.

In 2009, a study by Cunnane and cols conclude that the low intake of Omega 3 rich fish contributes significantly in the risk of Alzheimer. Low levels of Omega 3 fatty acids are related to a higher cognitive degeneration and and the worsening of Alzheimer.

New studies highlight the importance of Omega 3 fatty acids (DHA & EPA) in brain health.

An independent study, published in Neurology Journal, has found that supplementation with fish oil can even increase the brain volume during aging.

The decrease of brain mass is a distinctive sign of dementia, specially in Alzheimer disease. Therefore any healthy strategy that helps preserve brain volume can help efficiently in Alzheimer prevention.

Scientists have found that those people with Alzheimer disease have extremely low concentrations of long-chain omega 3 fatty acids.

A huge segment of population doesn’t consume omega 3 containing food. This may be one of the reasons of Alzheimer increase.
